Episode 1 Karaage in The Rain

"What a heavy rain......"

After I returned home, Cuare was whining about wanting to eat hamburger steak, so I had no choice but to make it. However, realizing that there was no minced meat, I had to head to the supermarket in the rain.

The rain was not as heavy after school, but it is now raining thunderously.

They said it would stop in the evening, but I guess the weather is a whimsical thing.

"Well, I have bought the minced meat and the after-meal dessert while I was at it"

I should hurry home. I should make dinner, or it sure looks like Cuare'll whine again.

"Hm?"

As I opened my umbrella after leaving the supermarket, an eye-catching person entered my vision.

A blonde girl wearing a mask with a cat's mouth drawn on it. Her blue eyes as she stares at me are like a beast's. She is wearing a green hoodie with a cat ear hood.

......No, it's not like she's staring at me. She just so happened to be there, and I entered her vision.

"......"

Curious, I turn back. However, the girl was no longer there.

"Sure was a strange girl"

I'm a little curious, but I should hurry home for now.

"A message?"

It was at such a time. A message had been delivered to my phone. It was from Cuare.

<Come to think of it, the new Karaage is on sale today!>

<In other words?>

<Please buy themmm!!>

This deity, even though she's gonna eat hamburger steak later. 

I sighed as I replied to her message.

<I'm not responsible if you can't eat dinner later>

<Easy!!>

After that, I asked her for the name of the product and rushed to the convenience store.

How do I put it...Haven't I been quite soft on Cuare recently? Totally feels like I'm a disciple devoted to a deity or something.

"----Alright. I'm glad there's still one left"

I buy the thing I was here for as I think about how to interact with Cuare going forward.

Well, let's head home for real this time, or so I thought as I opened my umbrella.

"Stareee"

"Whoa!?"

When I turned to my right, the girl I had seen several minutes earlier was standing there. What's more, she was staring hungrily at the new Karaage I bought earlier.

These eyes are clearly telling me that she wants to eat the Karaage. She is short. About the same as Aone?

"Do you want something from me?"

I do think that it's a coincidence, though.

"It smells like delicious meat"

Ah, as I thought.

"......Sorry. This is something my acquaintance requested me to get"

"Downer......"

Whoa, she looks very disappointed. So disappointed that she said downer.

"Well then, I will be off"

My heart hurts, but I can't give it to a girl I don't know.

"......Hmm"

I stopped and turned back.

She is still there. Rather, she is looking at me. No, at the new Karaage I am holding to be exact. I looked between the girl and the bag with the Karaage in it and nodded.

"Here"

I then held the new Karaage out to the girl.

"Is it alright?"

"Yeah. I'll buy it again from another place after all"

It is not like there is only one convenience store. There are about three that are within walking distance. There's no way that it would be sold out at all three. ......Probably.

"As the rumors say"

"Eh?"

What does she mean by as the rumors say?

"Thanks. And farewell"

The girl ran off in the rain, leaving no time to ask her the meaning of the words she just said.

"Ah, I forgot to use my ability again"

. . . .

"Muu......"

"I already told you it was sold out, right? Here, I made your hamburger steak bigger and even added cheese on top. Please let me off with that"

In the end, I went to all the convenience stores within walking distance, but it was sold out at all of them.

In truth, I did buy it, but I could not say that I gave it to a girl I did not know, so I told her it was sold out.

"Spicy Mayo flavor......Ah, another serving of rice"

While thinking that she should choose to either be sad or eat, I filled her rice bowl with some rice.

"So, that girl you met midway. Was she that strange?"

"Yeah, she was strange. And, I think she probably loves cats"

A type I have never met before. From the clothes she was wearing and her air, she gives off this......small animal vibe. That was the kind of vibe I felt from the girl.

"Did you use your ability to look?"

"I forgot"

That said, the meaning of those words. Thinking about it normally, she heard of me from someone who knows me. I think that is probably what happened.

An acquaintance of a girl who gives off that strange of an aura......Don't tell me it's Aone.

"Thanks for the meal!"

"I bought an after-meal dessert"

"Yahoooo!"

Cuare finished her meal faster than usual due to her sadness, but she hurriedly put down her utensils once I told her about dessert.

"Oh, a message"

Just in case, I put my chopsticks down, picked up my smartphone, and checked the message.

Seems like it was from Aone. They do say speak of the devil or something.

<Following up! I shall introduce my friend and classmate tomorrow after school!>

Friend, huh.

That masked girl popped up in my head.

<What kind of girl is she?>

<Well, I'll just leave it as a surprise for you tomorrow. Sorry>

There's no helping this.

<Got it. I am looking forward to tomorrow>

After that, I got her to tell me the place and exact meeting time.

Well then, time to eat dinner, or so I thought as I picked up my chopsticks.

"Delishhh"

Just then, Cuare came back with a pudding in her hand.

Seems like she was brooding over it for quite a while.

"Have you cheered up?"

"Cheered up, cheered uppp"

How do I put it...She is so simple-minded that it's worrying.

"Aren't you too simple-minded?"

"That's not the caseee," Cuare said as she sat on the sofa and ate her pudding deliciously.

That sure is the case, though. That said, I am relieved when I see this level of casualness from her. I wonder why......
