Episode 24 My Mum Fears No Deity

"Hey you there. What are you doing hiding behind my son?"

After hearing the rundown from Cuare, I managed to calm my mum, who looked like she was about to go at it, down somehow.

my mum. Her name is Setsuna Asube. She is usually a friendly woman but her past self seems to resurface when her family is involved. It seems like my mum was a well-known girl boss in the past, mercilessly beating down everyone, even if they were men, which, if I remember correctly, earned her the nickname 'The Undefeated Crimson Empress’. Anyway, there are times like this one when she gets rough.

"So?"

"Eh?"

"Will you not tell me the truth, Rei?" my mum asked, staring straight at me, when I managed to calm her down somehow.

"You ask for the truth, but this person here is an actual freeloader and"

"Rei. You know that you cannot hide anything from your mum right?"

......That's right. Ever since my mum would easily see through my lie. That is why I stopped lying to my mum. But this time...

Bearing my mum's determination in mind, I told her. I told her that this is the two-dimensional world and that I am the protagonist of this world. I also told her that I am currently the tester for a certain ability.

When I finished my best attempt at an explanation, my mum crossed her arms and was deep in thought.

This is my mum's reaction after hearing such a ridiculous story.

"Rei is the protagonist like I thought, huh"

"......Hm? What do you mean by like I thought?"

W-What is going on? Do not tell me that my mum understands this world and also knows that I am the protagonist.

"There is no way such a kind and cool son is a mob character after all~"

Mum sure does not change. I love my mum even though she has an overly protective side. She was actually the type who would never allow me to live alone, but she gave me permission to do so at the very end. 

I will come along as well!, or so I could still remember her saying along the way.

"You will believe me?"

"Of course. ......So, I want you to show me that ability though"

"I am fine with that, but is that really alright? I will be looking at Mum's personal information though"

"It is fine. There is no information that I will be embarrassed about you seeing after all"

Uhh, personally, looking at the acts my mum does and the number of times my mum does them is kind of...... Kgh, eyes filled with so much expectation!

"Here I go then"

"Okay!"

I am not willing to, but I use my ability to satisfy my mum's expectations.

"Are you using it?"

"Uh-huh"

"But, nothing changed though; Like your eyes lighting up or some sort of symbol appearing"

"A-About that, as such changes will make it easy to get found out, no changes will be shown to the target who is looked at, yeap" Cuare explained, while standing behind me, still afraid of my mum.

Mum also had the things that Miya had when I looked at Miya.

"The act called hug is blinking. And, there is an arrow extending from there and pointing towards me"

"Ahhhh, that is the sign of a level up"

"Sign?"

I guess that means this ability is about to reach level two.

"You see, games and the like often have it as well right? Showing you beforehand what you will be able to do when you level up. In the case of this ability, you can use the things that will be added when this ability levels up beforehand. The blinking is proof of this"

If that were done in a game, my heart would be set aflutter by the anticipation and I would probably go all out to farm experience points. In my case, however, I do not really feel motivated to do so with the ability being the ability it is.

I did kind of expect that and it was just as I had expected. That means my mum is thinking of hugging me right now huh.

"It was something that was not available up until now though"

"By the way, it, apparently, will still be shown, even if the person themself does not do the act itself, because they have the desire to do it"

"Apparently, you say......So there was a manual or something?"

Before I realized it, Cuare was reading a memo pad with secret, circled, written on the cover.

"I cannot remember everything after allll"

Level up huh. Even more personal information might be unveiled if my ability reaches level two. Even the feature I can now use beforehand is quite powerful. I will know the kinds of acts a person wants to do to another person after all. That said, it is still flawed. Acts that a person only thinks of doing but does not do are also included after all.

"A more amazing ability than I thought. There will be a sharp decline in infidelity with that ability right!"

"Yes, that is, well, the chief deity created the ability with that in mind so"

How long will this deity act so subserviently?

"So, what did you come here for Mum?"

"Y-Your son has been feeding me delicious meals all the time!!"

"Or well, that is the type of deity she is so. Nothing problematic will happen......I think"
